Get online day is a campaign from UK online centres, supported by Becta, The Campaign for Learning, Directgov, DIUS, Ofcom and Talk Talk.
Becta
Becta is the government agency leading the national drive to ensure the effective and innovative use of technology throughout learning. It is Becta’s ambition to utilise the benefits of technology to create a more exciting, rewarding and successful experience for learners of all ages and abilities, enabling them to achieve their potential. Get online day is in line with our own ambitions, and we’re pleased to be supporting this year’s event.

Campaign for Learning
The Campaign for Learning is a national charity which aims to create a passion for learning that sustains people for life. Research shows that lifelong learners are more likely to be happier, healthier, have better jobs, contribute more to society and live longer and more fulfilled lives.
The Family Learning Festival is run by the Campaign for Learning, and is a celebration to encourage all the family to try new activities, have fun together and get the learning bug! Thousands of locally organised events will be happening all over England throughout October. UK online centres are an ideal venue for a Family Learning Festival or Get online day event as they are already a hive of learning activity. From school homework to researching family history, UK online centres can help families learn about anything via the web.

Directgov
Directgov is the place where government brings together all of its services for citizens. People can find lots of information on the public services and support the government and its agencies provide – from how to apply for planning permission, to how to register to vote.
Many public services can now also be completed online, from paying your car tax to finding a local GP and booking your driving test. You can find information and services by topic, or by audience – so you can choose from ‘Money, Tax and Benefits’, ‘Environment and Greener Living’ and ‘Home and Community’, for example, or go straight to a section aimed at a specific group, such as ‘Young People’, ‘Parents’, or ‘Over 50s’.

Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS)
Britain can only succeed in a rapidly changing world if we develop the skills of our people to the fullest possible extent, carry out world class research and scholarship, and apply both knowledge and skills to create an innovative and competitive economy. The work of DIUS is therefore essential to national prosperity. It is just as important to our national wellbeing. Skills offer us all the means to better wages and more secure lives. Learning raises aspirations and helps to create a society where no-one is left behind and where we make best use of everyone's talents.

Ofcom
Ofcom is the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries, with responsibilities across television, radio, telecommunications and wireless communications services. Media literacy empowers people to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by digital communications technology. It’s important that people know what is on offer and how they can benefit. Being able to use new technologies with confidence allows people to gain a better understanding of the world and help them engage with it and to protect themselves and their families from possible risks presented by new services.
Promoting media literacy is a key priority for Ofcom and we are delighted to support Get Online Day 2008.

TalkTalk
TalkTalk is delighted to be supporting Get online day. As the people's phone and broadband company, we’re passionate about opening up access to the internet and ensuring that everyone can benefit from it.
We revolutionised the market by introducing free broadband because we believe that access to broadband should be a right for everyone, not a privilege for the few. The internet is fundamentally changing the way we work, play and communicate, so it’s essential we help as many people as possible get involved in this revolution – our support of Get online day is just another part of this.
